Red Dot Design Award 2022

The work "Filter" is the first overseas business space designed by BOTANIPLAN VON LEE CHI (BVLC) Artistic Director LEE CHI for the well-known French fragrance brand MAD et LEN.

MAD et LEN mainly sells candles, diffusers, and fragrances. As the first overseas store in Taiwan, Lee Chi has been thinking about how to choose materials that can carry the spirit of the land and outline the shape of the smell and then chose cement and black iron as the main body of the space.

For Taiwan, cement has a historical context of change and transformation in the architectural vocabulary and also represents the memory of most Taiwanese people's life. Lee Chi tries to use the rough texture of cement material to interpret the space by arranging the history of land development. At the same time, it translates the interface carrier of the building to carry the smell, delicately handles the balance of the virtual and the real in the space, and continues the spirit of the brand.

BOTANIPLAN VON LEE CHI transformed MAD et LEN's belief in simplicity. The design team chose to add fluidity to the interface and walls, making the space a medium with light, creating shadows and bright, solid and virtual changes through light and shadow. At the same time, the black of coal is used as the overall space concept, and cement and black iron are used as the keynote of the space to make the product itself more prominent and arouse people's imagination of fragrance. The neatly arranged objects in the space show the aesthetic in the details, evoking the bold dreams of the audience through a poetic experience.

iF Design Award 2021

0414-18.jpg

” Design is a tool for communication between different fields and industries, and a way to enrich life.“

2020 A’ Design Award & Competition | the GOLDEN A’ Design Award in Arts (Copy)

A' Design Award & Competition is the World's largest and most influential design accolade. Entries to A' Design Award & Competition are blind peer-reviewed by a grand jury panel of established academics, influential press members, prominent entrepreneurs and experienced designers. BOTANIPLAN VON LEE CHI has been recognized with the GOLDEN A’ Design Award in Crafts and Ready-Made Design for its Inorganic Mineral .

The theme of this series of works is to investigate the nature of materials and how materials, after being disassembled, can be reconstructed by the aesthetic system and new perspective. Lee also probes into the utilization of plants in the city apart from the outdoor landscape. The redefinition and reconstruction of plants and other artificial materials may make natural landscape have an emotional impact on people .

GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2017

GDA - FB Cover.jpg

Explain the outline of the entry briefly.

[ FUTURE MUSEUM: The Missing Part]

[ FUTURE MUSEUM: The Missing Part] transplants 13 habitats of threatened species that might have been perished in near future due to global environmental change. From terrain, geology, soil, plant to animal, every life form and substance with in the connotation of landscape are lifeblood to Mother Nature. However, 100 years from now, our offspring may probably only be able to pry into the possibly irretrievable beauty of nature in mimicked installation arts. FUTURE MUSEUM vividly links us to the possible future where natural environment might only be exhibited behind the windows.

The reason/ background the design was invented

In this work supported by Hermes, the unique wilderness and fragileness of Mother Nature are the original concepts we want to deliver. They are the most adorable art that everyone can possess freely. Time is another great form of art, that shapes every living thing with various looks in its various life circles. We also want to demonstrate a momento-shot of the endangered landscapes in their most beauties that might only be appreciated behind the window glass in the future. Hermes has included Eco-protection in their brand values for long, and this installation art is perfectly embracing this concept and communicate with the brand’s consumers along with more social units these people can influence.

The intention of the designer

BOTANIPLAN VON LICHT is not just about botanical aesthetics. We try to dig into the deepest matter that could touch the visitors’ minds. We wish that our work could not just be related to the beauty of plants, but to arouse discussions of social values. For example: FUTURE MUSEUM, in which we wish to alert about the extinction of the great beauty of nature. Apart from traditional floriculture, we use non-living materials to mimic natural sceneries. Its controversial appeals our intention to change the stereotype of floral and botanical art nowadays. In our opinions, floral and botanical art shouldn't be considered simply as space decor, but to bring us more power and energy we need, mentally or philosophically.

BOTANIPLAN VON LICHT renamed BOTANIPLAN VON LEE CHI in 2018.
